Designed in the typical Blackberry way, the Blackberry 9700 Bold offers you a total smartphone experience. The 2.447 inch TFT display with 65K color support provides a decent display for all the applications and features on the phone. The optical track-pad comes as a great, pain-free and simple navigation tool thanks to its touch-sensitivity. As usual, the full QWERTY keypad gives you a simple way to type and interact with your Blackberry 9700 Bold.

The very fact that this is an advanced Blackberry phone easily reveals that the phone comes with plenty of applications and widgets designed to help you both professionally and personally. The performance gets a boost and you get a faster access to all your applications. The Blackberry 9700 UK is highly active in terms of internet connectivity – with 3G and Wi-Fi, you get faster access to your favorite websites, to your social networks and to manage your email. The built-in HTML browser gives you a picture-perfect view for all the websites that you access. Besides these connectivity options, you also get GPRS, EDGE, Bluetooth and USB.

One of the most prominent things on the Blackberry 9700 Bold is the multimedia capability. The 3.15 MP camera comes as a great tool to capture your favorite moments and not let them just pass away! Click pictures, record videos and share them with all your friends – all through the Blackberry Bold 9700 smartphone. Features like autofocus, LED flash and Image Stabilization provide enhanced quality for all your captures. Also interesting is the media player – with support for DivX and XviD, you can almost play any file on the Blackberry 9700 Bold and use it for entertainment! Routine features like a-GPS support (along with the Blackberry Maps), a simple but powerful document editor, an Organizer and Voice Memo/Dial are available with the smartphone. BlackBerry Bold 9000 Unlocked Phone with 2 MP Camera, 3G, Wi-Fi, GPS, and MicroSD Slot–International Version with Warranty

There are certain additions of features in the blackberry 9700 bold as compared to the Blackberry 9000. First of all, the controversial trackball is replaced with the track pad that is compatible with the soft touch technology. Certainly, this is one very positive move since the previous Blackberry models have received a lot of criticism because of this trackball.

The trackpad can be used for a number of different options. You will be able to navigate through the various menus of the phone. Also, you can swipe from up to down and right to left and a slight press on trackpad will lead you to select the option. There is another basic button called the back arrow. This button is used to return to the home screen as well as to the previous screen.

The Blackberry Menu key is on the left of the trackpad. When you are on the home screen, you can use this key to watch more applications. On the other hand, when you press the key while inside the applications screen, it will pull down the different options usable under the application. There are some other very useful shortcuts that come with this new blackberry bold phone.

- You can hold the alt key while pressing the escape key, and continue holding the alt key and select the app, and release it to switch the apps.

- If you want to select or clear any check box, you can press the space bar.

- Also, you can type in the first letter of the item while checking the menu items and list in order to select the option.

One of the greatest things with the Blackberry phones is certainly the Blackberry Internet Services. In fact, this is something that marks the different of these phones from the ordinary ones. However, you need to register your cell phone to make the most of this service. However, the Blackberry 9700 bold is very much like other Blackberry phones since they rely heavily on the 3G data plans to ensure the updates of emails and other applications. However, if you are not ready to spend too much of high data charges, you have to turn off and on the setting again and again.

Another great advantage of the new Blackberry bold is that it offers the opportunity to connect the web based email ids as well as the corporate accounts on Lotus Notes, Microsoft Outlook and so on. However, for that, you have to ask the office system administrator for the activation of password to connect to Blackberry Enterprise server. After that, you will be able to receive the mails just like any SMS messages. There are several messaging clients including Windows Live Messenger, Google Talk, Yahoo Chat, etc with the phone.

The phone is sleek, comfortable, and comes with a vibrant display. The QWERTY keyboard makes it easier to type texts. Also, it is smaller and is loaded with more features than those of its predecessors.

Smartphones are the best gadget for any corporate user. However, to select the one, fit for their corporate personality, is hard to choose from the crowd.

The article is a feature by feature comparison between BlackBerry Bold & 3G iPhone that are label as best Smartphone available in the market.
Apple iPhone 3G

The iPhone is an internet-connected multimedia Smartphone designed and marketed by Apple Inc, which lacks a physical keyboard, but the multi-touch screen renders a virtual keyboard when necessary. It functions as a camera phone, a portable media player and an Internet client. The Apple iPhone 3G is known as the Smartphone that is best in multimedia.

BlackBerry Bold
The BlackBerry Bold aka 9000, the first 3G BlackBerry, launched in the U.S. in November of 2008, is a mobile phone data device, which is considered as one of the best in BlackBerry series.

Comparison of features:

Microprocessor: BlackBerry has 624MHz Intel PXA270/Marvell Tavor PXA930 processor, up from 312MHz, whereas iPhone has Samsung ARM 1176JZ(F)-S v1.0 620 MHz under-clocked to 412 MHz, 32-bit RISC processor.

Operating System: Bold runs BlackBerry OS 4.6, whereas iPhone 3G has iPhone OS 2.2.1.

WLAN: BlackBerry has 802.11a/b/g plus good GPS, typically a tradeoff with BBs, while iPhone supports Wi-Fi 802.11b/g.

Resolution:  BlackBerry has 480 x 320 resolution screen with 65,000 colors, whereas iPhone sports 480×320 px, 3.5 in (89 mm), 3:2 aspect ratio, 262,144-color LCD touch-screen.

SMS/MMS: In the Apple iPhone 3G Smartphone, you can only send SMS. Where-as in the BlackBerry, you can send both SMS and MMS.

Memory: The memory that is installed in the Apple is 16 GB where as in the BlackBerry it is 64MB only. In BlackBerry, MicroSD expansion is available where as in Apple it is absent.

Applications: RIM has made a lot of noise about its BlackBerry App World store, whereas Apple recently celebrated its 1 billionth App Store download.

Screen: The Apple has a touch screen and whatever information you are inputting has to be done through that, where as a BlackBerry comes fully equipped with a QWERTY keypad. In the Apple phone the size of the screen is 3.5 inches where as it is 2.5 inches in the BlackBerry.

Camera: In both devices, the resolution of the digital camera is 2 megapixels.

Speakers: The Apple comes in with speakers that are built in. The BlackBerry also comes with inbuilt speakers, but they also come with a 3.5mm stereo jack.

Battery Life: The life of the battery of the BlackBerry is higher than the Apple phones battery life as there is no touch screen and resolution of screen is less.

Location support: BlackBerry has Gokivo Navigator and iPhone provides Google Maps.

Discussion
As usual, you cannot get all the features in one gadget, for e.g. in the BlackBerry the features like the alarm clock; calendar, digital zoom is available where as such features are not available in the Apple. Also, you can do cut and paste text between apps in BlackBerry, while iPhone lacks it. One more thing you miss in the iPhone is opening a zipped attachment, which is present in the BlackBerry Bold.

But, the 16GB memory, rotational ability, touch screen, use of accelerometer for motion detection, Safari browser’s support, larger screen and easy apps downloads from the application store makes it better Smartphone than any other.

The most important function for a corporate executive is E-mailing.  BlackBerry has become the Lotus Notes of the mobile world for providing secure e-mail anywhere on the move.

Also, the iPhone works directly with Exchange, so you can e-mail, e-mail folders, calendars, and contacts all flowed effortlessly among the iPhone, laptop, and server. The configuration was trivial.

It is important to note that BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) supports Novell GroupWise and Lotus Notes, while both of those servers support the iPhone only through Web clients, limiting their integration with other iPhone apps such as Contacts and Calendar. Thus, BlackBerry supports more e-mail systems, even though you have to add a dedicated server to get that support.

In the security front, organizations running BlackBerrys can trust as if a BlackBerry is lost, IT can wipe all of its data and render it useless over the air. Apple also provides more iPhone security capabilities than most people realize, but it still does not have the depth of messaging and device security that the BlackBerry does.

Efficient communication is certainly the main factor that drives your business to expand further and as smooth as you expected. Without proper consultation on which mobile phone to be used, you might end up using the wrong device and eventually you will face disaster that will flop your business. BlackBerry prepaid mobile phone is an exception, since the mobile phone has been dedicatedly created as business medium of communication.

It’s undeniable that the BlackBerrys are one of the best prepaid mobile phones for business usage. Their combination of easy to use interface and their push email capabilities make them a must have for all corporate users and to a certain extent general consumers who are constantly mobile. Well, RIM is not letting up in its onslaught and its latest Blackberry Bold prepaid mobile phone is set to continue the Blackberry’s strength in business mobile phones with a few more improvements.

The Blackberry Bold prepaid mobile phone is by far the best looking Blackberry to come out of RIM’s stable. Its curved and rounded edges coupled together with the removable black leathered back cover and black design gives it that rather classy look. The Blackberry Bold is quite big though even by a Blackberry’s standard, measuring in at 114 by 66 by 14 mm. The larger size of the Blackberry Bold is due to one reason, its nice 2.6 by 2.25 inch screen which I will further comment on later.

Now although the BlackBerry Bold prepaid mobile phone may seem rather large, I found that once it got into the palm of my hand, that didn’t really matter anymore as it fits in rather comfortably. In fact it felt very much like it belonged there. The wideness of the Blackberry Bold also gave more space for its full QWERTY keyboard. The BlackBerry Bold utilizes a four row keyboard which was really comfortable to use. The keys were not very squishy and made very little noise while I was using it. The keyboard layout itself was rather easy to get used to and texting and emailing was made really easy with this layout.

One of the key features that the Blackberry Bold has is its screen. Besides its size, it has a half VGA resolution of 480 by 320 and even though it has the same resolution as that of the iPhone, due to the smaller real estate of the Bold’s screen, you get a higher pixel density allowing for even sharper images and videos on it. This actually makes the BlackBerry Bold prepaid mobile phone’s screen much better than that of the iPhone. Videos played beautifully on the BlackBerry Bold and you won’t be complaining about the image quality that is displayed for pictures.

Of course with a larger screen real estate, RIM has also increased the size of the icons in the BlackBerry Bold’s user interface. The BlackBerry Bold comes with RIM’s BlackBerry operating system 4.6 version which uses a new visual style called Precision. The new style uses and array of six icons below the screen like that of a dock instead of their usual place at the side of the screen. I actually liked the larger icons on the BlackBerry Bold phone as this made them easy to see and it helps that they are more stylized than the previous Blackberry iterations. This made the BlackBerry Bold really easy on the eyes both physically and while being used.

Now a BlackBerry is not a Blackberry if it does not do email well and RIM has certainly upped the ante in the Blackberry Bold’s email functionality. Where previous Blackberrys crammed all your email into plain old texts, the Blackberry Bold’s new 4.6 operating system comes with HTML support for its email client.

No more will your Blackberry’s emails be plain and boring as now you can see almost exactly the same email you’d get when you view them on your PC. With email newsletters becoming increasingly creative these days, you can now see them in their full glory on your Blackberry Bold prepaid mobile phone instead of heading back to the PC to see them.

There were some hiccups to this though as sometimes the Blackberry Bold would not download some of the images in the email although I think this was due more to the network connection rather than to the Blackberry Bold itself.

The web browser of the Blackberry Bold was pretty excellent with rich rendering of the web pages. I liked that the Blackberry Bold would render the page first and then allow you to zoom in to specific parts you would like to read instead of making you navigate the whole page in a slow manner. The only thing that some of you might not like is that he Blackberry Bold does not support Flash files so you won’t be able to access sites that are totally reliant on Flash like most movie sites and a few corporate sites.

Editing documents is also now easier on the BlackBerry Bold prepaid mobile phone as it now comes with “Documents to Go” which will allow you to do all your word processing, Excel work and even PowerPoint presentations with ease. The suite also allows you to read PDF files and RTF files though they can only be opened via email attachments while you can load the normal office documents via memory card or memory transfer.

The Blackberry Bold prepaid mobile phone is not just a business mobile phone as it is well set up to play media as evidenced by its large screen. The large screen is not the only thing that makes it a media playing phone. The Blackberry Bold also has some pretty decent speakers but it is the 3.5 mm audio jack that really made me put my stamp on approval to the Blackberry Bold being an all rounder mobile phone.

As for the camera, the Blackberry Bold comes with a two mega pixel camera that came with a LED flash as well. My test shots showed that the Blackberry Bold’s captured image were nice and sharp with color reproduction being pretty accurate and true. What really set the Blackberry Bold apart though was its overall performance as a business mobile phone. Speed in accessing applications and browsing was top notch and this must be due to its Xscale 624Mhz processor. There were no lags when moving through the various applications and screens. Web pages and HTML emails were rendered and drawn faster than what I have seen with other Blackberry devices. Voice calls were also pretty good as previously there were some complaints on the crappy voice quality of previous Blackberrys. Well the problem is not there anymore with the Blackberry Bold prepaid mobile phone.

The only hiccup that I found in terms of performance was the Blackberry Bold’s overall battery life. With a 1500mAH battery under it, you would expect the Blackberry Bold to last pretty long. Unfortunately that wasn’t really the case. With 3G and WiFi on, I managed just over a day of usage with the Blackberry Bold and this was with minimum phone calls. Things were slightly better though when WiFi was turned off as I managed over two days of usage with it.

As far as I was concerned, the Blackberry Bold was pretty much a hit with me. It met every need I wanted in a business mobile phone, email,  document editing and even media playing. With its full connectivity options and easy to use interface, I was sold on the idea of getting one for myself. Now if only RIM can niggle a bit more life from that battery of theirs.
